Avoid transaction fees- negotiate free banking now.

Time is running out to talk to your bank about free banking. It could save you at least 20cent every time you use an ATM machine and/or quarterly fixed rate charges of €4.50.  Bank of Ireland admits to 750,000 of its customers qualifying for free banking while AIB are less forthcoming. Irrespective of free banking, your debit card will incur a stamp duty cost of €5.00 a year - €2.50 for Laser cards and €2.50 for ATM cards.

In what seems to be a knee-jerk response to tiger kidnappings, the justice Minister, Dermot Ahern has called on banks to impose higher ATM charges in an attempt to dissuade customers from withdrawing cash frequently. A study earlier in the year by central bank economists showed that the Irish withdraw more cash from ATM’s than people in the UK, the US, Germany, Finland and Japan. The theory behind such a proposal that the banks would have to hold less cash on their premises and therefore reduce the likelihood of robberies is both flawed and dangerous. Customers are likely to withdraw cash less regularly but in greater amounts, a welcome prospect for any would-be robbers.
Cashless transactions may be cheaper and safer in the long run. Qualify for free banking with Bank of Ireland if you make at least 3 payments per quarter using phone or internet banking and you keep €500 in your current account at all times. AIB simply asks that you use phone or internet banking once every quarter.  Other banks impose even fewer restrictions.  Talk to your bank now before new transaction charges are introduced.

Interviews can be difficult for both sides to go through but with good preparation it can be made easier. Here are 6 tips that can be used to help with the process.

Tip 1: Providing candidates with a company profile so they come to the interview better prepared and have already decided your company is for them.

Tip 2: Provide a proper environment for the interview. Your office if you are not going to be disturbed, a small conference room or a quiet area in a hotel can work. Allow an hour for each interview, that give you time to review and ensure the next person is not waiting.

Tip 3: Prepare your questions in advance, use open ended questions. Ask each person the same questions so you can compare and contrast.

Tip 4: Let the person being interviewed do the talking. The company profile has filled them in on your business.

Tip 5: If the person you are interviewing has worked for a lot of other companies ask yourself if they will stick with you?

Tip 6: After the interview is over record your thoughts. After a couple of interviews they all start to become a blur.

Proper preparation for a job interview can go a long way towards helping you find the right person for your company.
